Snorkelling
Snorkelling History
Did you know that snorkelling is one of the world’s oldest sports. As with all ancient sports it was driven by hunting. There is evidence that people used hollow reeds to help them to dive for sponges in Bronze Age Crete over 3000 year ago! You can imagine how valuable natural sponges were to people before they could be made in a factory.
And did you know that, as well as painting the Mona Lisa, back in the middle ages, Leonardo Da Vinci started designing the first modern day diving equipment. His sketch of webbed gloves became the model for today’s fins.
